Founded in 1873 and headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, the company was formerly known as The Champdany Jute Co., Ltd. and acquired by the Wadhwa Group in 1967; it maintains subsidiaries including Landale & Clark Limited, West Bengal Multifiber Jute Park Ltd, Champdany Constructions Limited, and AIC Properties Ltd.
