Business
Empresa Agroindustrial Pucala S.A.A. (BVL: PUCALAC1) is a Peruvian agribusiness company primarily engaged in the cultivation, harvesting, and industrial processing of sugarcane, as well as the manufacturing and commercialization of sugar and derived agricultural by-products. Headquartered in Pucala, Chiclayo Province, in the Lambayeque Department of Peru, the enterprise was formally incorporated as a publicly traded corporation in February 1997 following the corporatization of regional agrarian cooperatives and was subsequently listed on the Bolsa de Valores de Lima in May 1997. The company operates integrated agro-industrial facilities comprising extensive sugarcane plantations, irrigation networks, and milling infrastructure situated across the Chancay-Lambayeque agricultural valley. The company offers a diversified portfolio of agro-industrial products and agricultural commodities organized across several core product categories: standard brown sugar (azucar rubia) marketed for domestic household consumption, wholesale distribution, and industrial food processing; refined sugar tailored for commercial beverage and confectionery manufacturers; industrial molasses (melaza) supplied as a key input for animal feed formulation, livestock nutrition, and bio-fermentation processes; rectified and industrial ethyl alcohol derived from sugarcane distillation for pharmaceutical, antiseptic, and beverage blending applications; sugarcane bagasse (bagazo) utilized as biomass fuel for thermal and steam energy generation as well as raw material for paper pulp production; and complementary agribusiness crops, including dry beans (frejol), artichokes, and alternative horticultural products developed through land-use diversification programs. In addition to primary manufacturing, the company provides agricultural land leasing, raw sugarcane harvesting and transport services, and third-party contract milling arrangements. In recent years, Empresa Agroindustrial Pucala S.A.A. has undergone significant operational, legal, and structural reorganizations under judicial and insolvency administration frameworks overseen by Peru's national competition and intellectual property authority (INDECOPI) and regional courts. The enterprise has implemented a strategic shift toward hybrid operating models, combining direct agricultural harvesting with land leasing arrangements and strategic toll-milling partnerships with regional processors to maintain agricultural throughput. Concurrently, the administration has focused on comprehensive financial restructuring to address historical labor and tax liabilities, modernize field irrigation systems to withstand recurring El Nino climatic phenomena, and upgrade plantation security and supply-chain logistics to safeguard sugarcane transport across northern Peru. These measures aim to stabilize operating cash flows, restore sustainable industrial capacity at its milling complex, and expand agricultural yield across its productive landbank.
