Business
Volcan Compañía Minera S.A.A. is a Peru-based polymetallic mining company primarily engaged in the exploration, extraction, processing, and commercialization of zinc, lead, silver, and copper mineral resources. Founded in 1943 and headquartered in Lima, Peru, the company operates across key business segments including Mining Exploration and Exploitation, Mineral Processing, Electric Power Generation, and Logistics. The company conducts its mining and beneficiation activities in the Central Highlands of Peru across the Pasco, Junín, and Lima departments, anchored by major operating mining units including Yauli, Chungar, Alpamarca, and Cerro de Pasco. Volcan manufactures, produces, and supplies a systematic portfolio of mineral products and industrial services, comprising high-grade zinc concentrates; silver-rich lead concentrates; commercial copper concentrates; bulk silver-lead concentrates; silver doré and contained refined silver; as well as hydroelectric power generation and transmission services provided through subsidiary run-of-river generating assets. The company markets its concentrates and metal products primarily to international metals traders, smelters, and industrial refiners across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. In recent major corporate developments, the company underwent a pivotal change in its controlling ownership structure following the divestment of Glencore plc's 23.3 percent Class A voting stake to Transition Metals AG, an affiliate of Integra Capital. Additionally, the company executed a strategic corporate reorganization by spinning off its 40 percent equity ownership in the Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal project into an independent publicly traded entity, Inversiones Portuarias Chancay S.A.A., in order to streamline operations and re-focus capital on core extraction assets. Concurrently, Volcan has implemented comprehensive debt refinancing transactions across its international senior notes and syndicated bank facilities to optimize liquidity, while progressing the development and construction of the Romina polymetallic project within its Alpamarca cluster to expand reserve life and sustain mineral throughput.
