Business
MetroGAS S.A. is an Argentina-based public utility company primarily engaged in the distribution and commercialization of natural gas across the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and eleven municipalities within the southern Greater Buenos Aires metropolitan region. Founded in 1992 following the privatization of the state-owned utility Gas del Estado, the company is headquartered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and operates as the country's largest natural gas distributor by customer volume, operating under a regulated concession overseen by the Ente Nacional Regulador del Gas (ENARGAS). MetroGAS S.A. distributes natural gas to over 2.4 million connected accounts across a concession territory covering approximately 2,150 square kilometers, utilizing an extensive high-, medium-, and low-pressure pipeline grid. The company's core products and operational services include residential natural gas distribution for domestic heating, cooking, and water heating; commercial and institutional natural gas supply tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises, retail establishments, educational institutions, and healthcare centers; industrial natural gas distribution delivered through firm and interruptible supply and transportation contracts to manufacturing, metallurgical, food processing, and chemical facilities; compressed natural gas (CNG/GNC) supply designated for vehicular fueling service station networks; dedicated natural gas supply for thermoelectric power generation plants; specialized technical and infrastructure services, including gas meter installation, telemetry monitoring, pipeline inspection and cathodic protection, emergency response, network expansion, and domestic installation safety certifications; and unregulated wholesale gas commercialization and transportation brokerage conducted through its wholly owned subsidiary, MetroENERGÍA S.A., which supplies large industrial off-takers and power producers in the wholesale market. In recent operational and strategic developments, MetroGAS S.A. has executed comprehensive tariff restructuring frameworks and implemented recurring monthly indexation formulas authorized by ENARGAS and the national energy administration to restore distribution remuneration and real operating margins against inflation. The company has accelerated capital investment programs focused on distribution network modernization, pipeline integrity management, telemetry expansion for high-consumption accounts, and digital customer service platform upgrades. Concurrently, majority shareholder YPF S.A. has initiated strategic portfolio reviews concerning its equity participation in MetroGAS S.A. as part of an active corporate plan to optimize capital allocation toward upstream exploration and production activities in the Vaca Muerta shale basin.
