Business
China Automotive Systems, Inc. manufactures and sells automotive steering systems and components primarily for the passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle markets. Its product portfolio includes rack and pinion power steering systems, integral power steering systems, electric power steering (EPS) systems, manual steering systems, steering columns, steering hydraulic pumps, and hoses. The company also produces various sensors, automotive wire harnesses, automotive motors, electromechanical integrated systems, polymer materials, and provides intelligent automotive technology R&D services. It offers after-sales services, inspection and testing of automotive products, and markets automotive parts internationally including North America. Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Jingzhou, Hubei Province, China, the company operates through 16 subsidiaries and conducts business mainly in China with exports abroad. Recently, China Automotive Systems has been transitioning toward advanced, technology-focused products with a significant increase in electric power steering sales, which grew by over 31% year-over-year in early 2025 and now represent more than 40% of total product sales. In 2025, the company secured its first major R-EPS (rack electric power steering) order from a prominent European automaker with expected annual sales exceeding $100 million and planned mass production starting in 2027. The company is expanding its international market presence, especially in North and South America, and enhancing its organizational structure to support future growth globally. It also reported revenue growth guidance of $730 million for fiscal year 2025 based on strong sales performance. Its ongoing strategic initiatives include investments in energy-efficient steering systems compatible with advanced driver assistance systems (L2+). This shift underscores the company's focus on innovation and cost-efficiency in steering solutions. China Automotive Systems serves major automotive manufacturers including BYD, Geely, Chery, Changan, SAIC Motor, FAW Group in China, and Stellantis and Ford internationally. The company was originally incorporated in Delaware in 1999 under the name Visions-In-Glass, Inc., renamed to China Automotive Systems in 2003, and has since grown into a leading power steering supplier in China’s automotive sector with a strong R&D emphasis and production capacity exceeding 2.5 million steering systems annually. Overall, China Automotive Systems operates in the automotive parts industry with a specialization in steering systems and components, positioning itself as a key supplier to both traditional internal combustion engine vehicles and newer energy-efficient electric vehicles through expanding technology solutions and global partnerships.
