Canon Inc. (CAJFF), founded in 1937 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, develops, manufactures and markets a broad portfolio of imaging and information technology products worldwide, operating through four primary business segments including Printing, Imaging, Medical and Industrial; the Printing segment offers office multifunction devices, laser multifunction printers, inkjet printers, large-format printers, document solutions, production print products, image scanners and calculators; the Imaging segment provides digital single-lens reflex cameras, compact digital cameras, mirrorless cameras such as the EOS R series, digital video camcorders, interchangeable lenses, broadcasting equipment, projectors and network cameras; the Medical segment supplies diagnostic imaging systems including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, X-ray and ophthalmic equipment; and the Industrial segment delivers semiconductor and flat-panel display lithography equipment, image sensors, precision positioning devices, vacuum thin-film deposition equipment and organic light-emitting diode manufacturing tools. Canon maintains extensive global operations with regional headquarters in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Oceania, supported by 336 consolidated subsidiaries as of late 2023, and targets diverse customer segments from consumers and small-to-medium enterprises to commercial print professionals, healthcare providers and industrial manufacturers across regions including strong growth in Asia-Pacific and Africa. Recent developments include the expansion of its Canon Virginia facility in Newport News in 2024 to advance silk protein technology applications, Canon Healthcare's acquisition of a building in Cleveland, Ohio in early 2025 to establish a U.S. comprehensive imaging resource center with tax credit support and job creation, strong fiscal 2024 results announced in early 2025 with emphasis on full-frame cameras like EOS R1 and R5 Mark II alongside increased production of compact cameras targeting 8.2% sales growth, ongoing market repurchases of own shares including notices in February 2025 via ToSTNeT-3 and plans for continued acquisitions, and sustained R&D investment supporting product innovations in imaging and printing amid strategic expansions into emerging markets.
