Canon operates in four primary business segments: Office, Imaging System, Medical System, and Industry and Others; it serves consumer, commercial, healthcare, and industrial markets across Japan, the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Founded in 1937 and headquartered in Ota-ku, Tokyo, Japan, the company maintains 334 consolidated subsidiaries including Canon U.S.A., Canon Europe, Canon Medical Systems, and Canon Production Printing, formerly Océ. Recent developments include the launch of new PIXMA printer models such as TR7120, TS6520, and TS4320 in 2025; a research collaboration with Penn Medicine announced in November 2024 on photon-counting CT applications; acquisition of a building in Cleveland's Innovation District by Canon Healthcare in 2025 to establish a main office and imaging resource center; expansion of its Newport News, Virginia manufacturing facility; and introduction of nanoimprint lithography systems in 2023 as a cost-effective alternative to extreme ultraviolet technology.
