Business
Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited (TSX: CTC, CTC.A) is a leading Canadian retail company that operates a network of over 1,700 retail locations, gasoline outlets, and e-commerce platforms, offering products and services across automotive, living, fixing, sports, playing, apparel, seasonal, and gardening categories; financial services through Canadian Tire Bank and Triangle Rewards loyalty program; and real estate via CT REIT. The company retails through its flagship Canadian Tire stores, as well as banners including Mark's for casual and industrial workwear, Sport Chek, Sports Experts, Atmosphere, Pro Hockey Life, and Hockey Experts for sporting goods, PartSource for auto parts, Canadian Tire Gas+ for petroleum products, and Party City for party supplies in Canada. Founded in 1922 by brothers J.W. and A.J. Billes and headquartered at 2180 Yonge Street in Toronto, Ontario, Canadian Tire Corporation primarily serves consumers across Canada with a focus on everyday essentials, recreation, home improvement, and automotive needs supported by dealer-owned stores, franchisees, and corporate outlets. In recent developments, the company announced in February 2025 the sale of its Helly Hansen outdoor apparel brand to Kontoor Brands, Inc. for gross proceeds of approximately C$1.276 billion to streamline its portfolio and prioritize Canadian retail growth, with proceeds allocated to debt reduction, share repurchases up to C$400 million in 2025, and investments in core operations. In March 2025, Canadian Tire Corporation unveiled its "True North" four-year transformative growth strategy, featuring a redesigned leadership team, enhanced omnichannel investments including store modernizations, data analytics for Triangle Rewards personalization, new partner expansions like Tim Hortons, Royal Bank of Canada, and WestJet, optimization of Sport Chek and Atmosphere stores by closing 17 underperforming Atmosphere locations, and planned capital expenditures at the higher end of C$525-575 million for 2025. Additional 2025 initiatives include a strategic partnership with WestJet launched in May to integrate Triangle and WestJet Rewards programs, and the acquisition of Hudson's Bay Company brand intellectual property assets in May, followed by the launch of the first Hudson's Bay stripes collection in November.
