Business
Chemed Corporation (NYSE: CHE), headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio and founded in 1971, operates as a diversified holding company with two primary segments: VITAS Healthcare, the nation's largest provider of end-of-life hospice and palliative care services, and Roto-Rooter, a leading provider of plumbing, drain cleaning, excavation, water restoration, and related maintenance services. VITAS delivers comprehensive hospice care including inpatient units, 24/7 nursing support, pain management, symptom control, telehealth monitoring, and electronic health records coordination primarily to patients with life-limiting illnesses such as oncology and cardiology conditions across 15 states and the District of Columbia; Roto-Rooter offers residential and commercial plumbing repairs, drain and sewer cleaning, excavation, water cleanup, and emergency services through company-owned branches, independent contractors, and franchisees in the United States and Canada, with master franchisees in Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines. The company serves healthcare providers, residential homeowners, commercial businesses, and institutional customers with a workforce exceeding 17,000 employees. In April 2024, VITAS completed a $85 million acquisition of hospice assets and an assisted living facility from Covenant Health and Community Services, Inc., enhancing its presence particularly in Florida markets and contributing to subsequent revenue growth in the segment; through the third quarter of 2025, Chemed reported consolidated revenue of $624.9 million, up 3.1% year-over-year, with VITAS net revenue increasing 4.2% to $407.7 million driven by higher admissions and days-of-care, while Roto-Rooter revenue rose 1.1% to $217.2 million amid growth in excavation, water restoration, and plumbing services. The company continues strategic expansions including new Certificate of Need locations in underserved Florida counties like Pinellas and Marion, alongside ongoing share repurchases totaling over $210 million in 2025 year-to-date under an expanded authorization.
