Business
CHS Inc. (CHSCO) is a diversified global agribusiness cooperative owned by farmers, ranchers, and member cooperatives across the United States, headquartered in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, with origins tracing to 1931 through predecessor entities Cenex and Harvest States Cooperatives. The company provides a broad range of products and services in agriculture, energy, and related sectors, including refined fuels, lubricants, propane, and renewable energy products under the Cenex brand distributed through one of North America's largest convenience store networks; crop nutrients, fertilizers, crop protection products, seeds, and precision agronomy solutions via CHS Connect digital platform; grain marketing, soybean processing, and export services through facilities in the U.S., Australia, Ukraine, and joint ventures like TEMCO; animal nutrition and feed; food ingredients and edible oils via co-owned Ventura Foods; nitrogen production through CF Nitrogen joint venture with CF Industries; and business solutions encompassing financial services via CHS Capital, hedging, payment solutions, insurance, transportation, and logistics. CHS operates extensive infrastructure including petroleum refineries in Laurel, Montana, and McPherson, Kansas, grain terminals, soybean crushing plants, pipelines, and export venues across North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific, serving over 75,000 producers, 750 member cooperatives, and 20,000 preferred stockholders with global market access. Recent developments include the 2025 acquisition of West Central Ag Services to expand agronomy distribution and global supply chain capabilities; purchase of multiple grain facilities in 2024 from Scoular across Minnesota, Illinois, Nebraska, Colorado, and South Dakota to optimize enterprise supply chain and enhance farmer access to global markets; investments in a new crop science research center and Holdrege, Nebraska, grain facility in 2025; a joint venture with Rumo in 2024 to build a Brazil grain and fertilizer terminal; amendment of financing agreements extending repurchase facilities to 2026; announcement in September 2025 to return $120 million in cash patronage and equity redemptions to owners in 2026 based on fiscal 2025 results; and mutual agreement in October 2025 with Mid-Kansas Cooperative to end their grain marketing joint venture. For fiscal year 2025 ended August 31, CHS reported net income of $597.9 million on $35.5 billion in revenue, with resilience in agronomy and nitrogen production offsetting energy segment challenges from tighter refining margins and maintenance.
