Business
CK Infrastructure Holdings Limited is a Hong Kong-based global infrastructure company primarily engaged in investments in energy infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, water infrastructure, waste management, waste-to-energy, household infrastructure, and other related infrastructure businesses. It operates mainly in Hong Kong, Mainland China, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States. The company is the largest shareholder of Power Assets Holdings Limited and is a subsidiary of CK Hutchison Holdings. Founded in 1996, CK Infrastructure is led by Chairman Victor Li Tzar-kuoi. The company’s core products and services include electricity distribution and generation; gas distribution networks; water supply services; renewable energy projects such as wind farms, solar power, and biomass; waste management and waste-to-energy solutions; as well as emerging clean technology innovations like hydrogen transition in gas networks, hydrogen-powered trains, renewable natural gas, carbon capture and storage, and smart city solutions. Recent major developments in 2024-2025 include acquisitions of significant UK renewable energy assets, such as 32 wind farms in the UK for approximately US$448.5 million, alongside earlier purchases of solar, wind, and hydropower assets. The company has actively expanded its clean energy portfolio and continues to pursue hydrogen and biomethane projects in the UK and Australia. In the first half of 2025, CK Infrastructure reported a 1% profit increase driven by strong contributions from its UK portfolio including Northumbrian Water and three gas distribution networks—Northern Gas Networks, Wales & West Utilities, and Phoenix Energy. It has also agreed in 2025 to divest UK Rails, subject to regulatory approval. The company maintains a robust financial position with substantial cash on hand and an investment-grade credit rating. CK Infrastructure faces regulatory and market challenges but is strategically positioned for growth by leveraging infrastructure modernization trends, urbanization support, and decarbonization targets in its diversified global markets.
