Business
Chemring Group PLC manufactures and supplies advanced technology products and services for the aerospace, defence and security markets, operating through four principal sectors: countermeasures that protect aircraft, ships and land platforms from guided missile threats; sensors and electronics for detecting and countering improvised explosive devices, unexploded ordnance, electronic warfare and chemical or biological threats; pyrotechnics and munitions for naval, army and air force applications; and energetic systems including propellants, explosives, missile and ammunition components, thrusters and initiators for space programmes. The company offers specialised products such as expendable decoys, infrared countermeasures, radar chaff, IED detection equipment, pyrotechnic signals, rocket motors, HMX and MCX energetic materials, software-defined radio systems and security products. Chemring serves national defence agencies, prime contractors and commercial customers; it maintains extensive operations across the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Asia, with key facilities in the UK, US, Norway and Australia. Founded in 1905 and headquartered at Roke Manor in Romsey, Hampshire, United Kingdom, Chemring Group PLC lists on the London Stock Exchange as a FTSE 250 constituent under the ticker CHG.L (OTC: CMGMF). Subsidiaries include Chemring Nobel in Norway, a leading producer of high-performance explosives; Chemring Countermeasures UK; Chemring Energetics UK; Chemring Australia; Chemring Energetic Devices in the US; and Roke Manor Research, a technology and R&D centre. Recent developments include the completion of the Landguard Group acquisition in August 2025, which adds software-defined radio systems and security products to bolster Roke's growth and synergies. In June 2024, Chemring Nobel signed a 15-year partnering agreement with Northrop Grumman for HMX supply, including an initial $83 million order, and a 12-year framework with Diehl Defence for MCX valued at €231 million initially. The group expanded its Energetics capacity investment from £120 million to £200 million in June 2024, targeting £100 million annual revenue growth by 2028, supported by £90 million Norwegian grant funding received progressively since March 2024; in October 2024, a government-backed feasibility study launched for a new explosives facility.
