Business
Cementos Argos S.A. produces and markets cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, clinker and hydrated lime for the construction industry; it operates cement plants, concrete plants, aggregate plants, clinker grinding facilities, ports, terminals and mixer truck fleets; additional services include maritime transport, property management, civil works execution and reinsurance. The company serves residential, commercial and infrastructure markets in Colombia, Central America including Honduras, Panama and Guatemala, the Caribbean region encompassing the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Suriname, French Guiana and various islands, with exports to 28 destinations worldwide. Founded in 1934 and headquartered in Barranquilla, Colombia, Cementos Argos S.A. maintains a subsidiary relationship with parent Grupo Argos S.A. and holds a total cement production capacity of approximately 24 million tons annually across 7 cement plants, 46 concrete plants, 6 aggregate plants and 7 clinker mills. Recent major changes include the January 2024 combination of its U.S. operations (Argos USA) with Summit Materials followed by the February 2025 sale of its 31% stake in Summit to Quikrete Holdings for close to USD 2.9 billion in cash, providing capital for re-entry into the U.S. market via cement exports, aggregates platforms and potential acquisitions; ongoing SPRINT 3.0 shareholder value program with preferred-to-ordinary share conversion in May 2024, enhanced dividends totaling COP 590 billion, share buybacks exceeding COP 1 trillion including a USD 230 million tender in 2025, and index inclusions boosting liquidity; operational expansions such as four new concrete plants in Bogota, USD 45 million investment in Colombian infrastructure modernization, pozzolana drying projects in Honduras for low-carbon cement, port dredging in Panama, modular solutions generating over COP 9.6 billion in two years, and 3D concrete printing partnership with the National University of Medellin.
