Business
The Cooper Companies, Inc. (Nasdaq: COO) develops, manufactures, and markets a broad range of medical devices focused on vision care and women's health. The company operates through two primary business units: CooperVision, which produces soft contact lenses including daily, two-week, and monthly disposables for spherical, toric, multifocal, and presbyopia correction; and CooperSurgical, which provides fertility products, genomic solutions, contraception devices, reproductive care tools, birth-related instruments, women's and family health diagnostics, office and surgical devices such as INSORB staplers, Lone Star retractors, and Doppler blood flow monitors. Products are distributed to eye care practitioners, healthcare professionals, hospitals, clinics, group purchasing organizations, and authorized resellers worldwide. Founded in 1958 and headquartered in San Ramon, California, the company employs over 16,000 people across 130 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. In August 2024, CooperSurgical acquired obp Surgical for approximately $100 million, adding the ONETRAC portfolio of single-use cordless surgical retractors with integrated multi-LED lighting and smoke evacuation, as well as cordless suction devices with radial LED lights, which generated $14.5 million in trailing twelve-month revenue and complement existing surgical offerings. This acquisition, expected to be neutral to non-GAAP earnings per share in fiscal 2024 and accretive thereafter, underscores ongoing strategic expansion in women's health and surgical devices; additionally, in September 2025, the board authorized a $2 billion stock repurchase program representing up to 15.4% of outstanding shares.
