Business
Bukit Darah PLC is a Sri Lanka-based diversified conglomerate and investment holding company engaged in oil palm cultivation, edible oils and fats manufacturing, beverage production, portfolio and asset management, real estate development, hospitality, and corporate management services. Founded in 1916 and headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the company serves as the ultimate holding entity for Carson Cumberbatch PLC and its regional subsidiaries, maintaining operational footprints across Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, and Mauritius. The company operates through eight principal business segments: Oil Palm Plantations, Oils and Fats, Beverage, Portfolio and Asset Management, Real Estate, Leisure, Investment Holdings, and Management Services. Through its agribusiness subsidiary Goodhope Asia Holdings Ltd, the company cultivates oil palm estates and operates downstream refining and fractionation facilities, producing crude palm oil (CPO), palm kernel, and fresh fruit bunches; refined, bleached, and deodorized (RBD) palm olein, stearin, and consumer cooking oils; and industrial specialty fats including cocoa butter substitutes (CBS), cocoa butter replacers (CBR), bakery shortenings, margarine, confectionery fats, frying fats, and ice cream fats. Through its beverage operations led by Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC and Ceylon Beverage Holdings PLC, the company brews, bottles, imports, and distributes malt beverages, lagers, stouts, and ciders, offering proprietary brands including Lion Lager, Lion Strong, Lion Stout, and Ryder's, as well as international partner brands such as Carlsberg, Carlsberg Special Brew, and Somersby Cider under license. Through Ceylon Guardian Investment Trust PLC and affiliated funds, the company provides discretionary portfolio management, equity research, private equity investing, and unit trust administration for institutional and private investors. Through Equity One Limited and Equity Two PLC, the company develops, manages, and leases commercial office spaces and warehouse facilities. In the leisure sector, through Pegasus Hotels of Ceylon PLC, the company owns and operates hospitality properties, including the Pegasus Reef Hotel and Giritale Hotel, offering accommodation, dining, conference, and event hosting services. Through AHL Business Solutions (Private) Limited and Carsons Management Services, the group provides corporate administration, information technology services, and agricultural management consultancy. In recent operational and strategic developments, the beverage division established a dedicated innovation brewery facility to accelerate product formulation and packaging automation while expanding export operations across regional overseas markets to counter domestic excise tax adjustments. In the oils and plantations division, Goodhope Asia Holdings advanced its sustainability transformation roadmap by expanding biogas recovery and renewable energy infrastructure across its Indonesian palm oil mills and enhancing supply chain traceability under its No Deforestation, No Peat, and No Exploitation (NDPE) commitments. Additionally, the leisure division executed a multi-phase capital modernization and refurbishment program across its hotel properties to optimize room inventory and enhance guest experiences, while the portfolio and asset management segment realigned its equity strategies to capitalize on capital market recoveries across South Asia.
