- Kelani Valley Plantations PLC is a Sri Lanka-based agribusiness company engaged in the cultivation, manufacturing, processing, and marketing of tea, natural rubber, and diversified agricultural produce. Established in 1992 and headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the company operates as a key plantation arm of the Hayleys PLC conglomerate through DPL Plantations (Pvt) Ltd. The company manages over 13,000 hectares of agricultural land comprising more than 25 estates located across the high-grown tea regions of Nuwara Eliya and Hatton, as well as the low-grown rubber and tea belts of the Kelani Valley and Kegalle districts.
The company operates through three principal business segments: Tea, Rubber, and Other Agriculture and Services. Its core product and service offerings comprise Orthodox Black Tea across various leaf and dust grades; Cut, Tear, and Curl (CTC) black tea; Single-Origin and Single-Estate teas marketed under renowned estate garden marks; Specialty and Artisan Teas, including White Tea (Silver Tips) and Green Tea; Value-Added Tea Blending, Bagging, and Export Packaging managed through its subsidiary Mabroc Teas (Pvt) Ltd; Centrifuged Natural Rubber Latex; Pale Crepe Rubber; Sole Crepe Rubber; Technically Specified Rubber (TSR); Ribbed Smoked Sheet (RSS) rubber; Ceylon Cinnamon quills, cuts, and value-added spices; Commercial Forestry and Timber harvesting; Grid-Connected Hydroelectric and Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation; and Plantation Eco-Tourism and Hospitality Services, featuring heritage estate bungalows such as the Oliphant Bungalow.
Kelani Valley Plantations PLC supplies major domestic auction buyers as well as international markets across Europe, North America, the Middle East, East Asia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Its specialized natural rubber grades cater to industrial and medical manufacturers of protective gloves, adhesives, automotive components, and footwear.
In recent developments, Kelani Valley Plantations PLC has accelerated its strategic crop diversification program by expanding commercial cultivation of Ceylon cinnamon, coconut, specialty coffee, and exotic fruits to optimize land utilization and mitigate single-commodity price cycles. The company has substantially expanded its renewable energy portfolio by installing commercial rooftop solar photovoltaic systems across its processing factories to complement its existing mini-hydro generation assets. Operationally, the company has integrated precision agriculture technologies across its estates, deploying drone-based aerial canopy assessments, automated weather stations, and IoT-enabled field monitoring systems for targeted nutrient management. In addition, the company has expanded its export portfolio of certified organic and functional wellness teas under the Mabroc brand and enhanced its estate-level sustainability framework, maintaining comprehensive certifications from the Rainforest Alliance, Forest Stewardship Council, and ISO standards to advance its corporate carbon neutrality and regenerative agriculture initiatives.
