Business
Sri Lanka Telecom PLC is the national telecommunications and integrated digital services provider in Sri Lanka. Founded in 1858 and headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the company provides telecommunications, digital entertainment, and enterprise information and communications technology infrastructure services across domestic and international markets. The company operates through dedicated fixed-line, mobile, and digital service subsidiaries, notably Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd, SLT VisionCom (Pvt) Ltd, and SLT Digital Info Services (Pvt) Ltd, serving individual consumers, small and medium-sized enterprises, large corporate entities, government institutions, and global wholesale carriers. The company provides a comprehensive suite of telecommunications and digital infrastructure products and services, including: fixed-line voice telephony and ultra-high-speed fiber-to-the-home broadband services; mobile cellular telecommunications, mobile data, voice over LTE, and international roaming under the Mobitel brand; enterprise data communications, including multiprotocol label switching, carrier Ethernet, software-defined wide area networking, and dedicated domestic and international leased circuits; cloud computing, virtual private servers, and disaster recovery solutions under the Akaza Cloud platform; Tier III certified national data center colocation and managed hosting facilities; enterprise cybersecurity, threat management, and security operations center services; digital television broadcasting, video-on-demand, and interactive media services through its PEO TV Internet Protocol television network; digital healthcare booking, e-channeling, and telemedicine platforms via eChannelling PLC; mobile financial services and digital payment systems through its mCash platform; Internet of Things, smart home, and smart city connectivity solutions; and wholesale international subsea cable capacity, global IP transit, and national optical transmission network infrastructure. In recent developments, Sri Lanka Telecom PLC has executed major strategic and operational initiatives to strengthen its market position and national digital footprint. The Government of Sri Lanka commenced a formal transaction process to divest its 49.5 percent equity stake in the company as part of its state-owned enterprise restructuring program. The group consolidated its fixed and mobile operations under the unified brand identity SLT-MOBITEL to enhance operational efficiency, cross-selling capabilities, and digital customer touchpoints. To advance national next-generation network infrastructure, the company expanded its nationwide fiber rollouts and accelerated pre-commercial 5G network trials across major metropolitan regions. Sri Lanka Telecom PLC also committed substantial capital to the South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6 (SEA-ME-WE 6) submarine cable consortium, reinforcing its international bandwidth capacity and augmenting its subsea cable landing assets, which include SEA-ME-WE 3, SEA-ME-WE 4, SEA-ME-WE 5, and the Bharat-Lanka cable system. Furthermore, the company established strategic partnerships with global technology providers and hyperscalers to deliver advanced cloud migration, artificial intelligence integration, and enterprise-grade cybersecurity solutions across Sri Lanka.
