- Telecom Egypt S.A.E. is the primary integrated telecommunications operator and incumbent fixed-line provider in the Arab Republic of Egypt, delivering telecommunications, information technology, and media infrastructure services across retail, enterprise, and wholesale markets. Founded in 1854 and headquartered in the Smart Village in Giza, Egypt, the company operates across four primary reporting business segments: Home & Consumer, Enterprise, Domestic Wholesale, and International Carriers & Cable Systems. The company provides commercial retail services under the flagship brand WE and maintains a 44.95 percent strategic equity ownership in Vodafone Egypt Telecommunications S.A.E.
The company provides an extensive portfolio of products and communications services, comprising: retail fixed-line voice telephony and public switched telephone network (PSTN) services; fixed broadband internet connectivity delivered via asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL), very high speed digital subscriber line (VDSL), and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network architectures; 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile voice, messaging, and mobile broadband services; digital television, internet protocol television (IPTV), and residential smart home solutions; dedicated business connectivity, including dedicated internet access (DIA), multi-protocol label switching (MPLS), software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN), and point-to-point leased lines; enterprise cloud infrastructure, managed hosting, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity solutions; systems integration, managed network operations, and enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) platforms; domestic wholesale transmission, national dark fiber leasing, bitstream access, and tower sharing for licensed telecom operators; international carrier voice termination, IP transit, and global roaming exchange; transcontinental submarine cable landing station management and subsea capacity leasing; commercial data center colocation and interconnection services through its Regional Data Hub (RDH) facilities; and terrestrial cross-Egypt transit fiber corridors connecting the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea. Telecom Egypt serves retail subscribers, small and medium-sized enterprises, large corporations, government entities, and international carriers across Egypt, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia.
In recent developments, Telecom Egypt has accelerated its capital deployment and infrastructure expansion to reinforce its position as a regional connectivity and data transit gateway. The company secured Egypt's first commercial 5G mobile operating license from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) for a 15-year term, deploying 5G radio access network technologies and cloud-native core architecture in strategic partnership with global telecom equipment vendors. The company has expanded its international subsea and terrestrial connectivity by completing landings and commercial integration for transcontinental cable systems, including the 2Africa subsea consortium and the Medusa Submarine Cable System, alongside expanding its Red2Med terrestrial and submarine transit corridor. Telecom Egypt entered into a strategic joint venture agreement with 4iG Group to construct a direct subsea optical cable link connecting Egypt to Albania as an open-access gateway into Eastern Europe, while also partnering with Zain Omantel International (ZOI) to develop a digital corridor linking the Mediterranean to the Arabian Gulf. In addition, the company has secured multi-currency syndicated loan facilities and export credit financing from domestic and international banking consortiums to fund its nationwide copper-to-fiber network modernization program, expand its Tier III-certified carrier-neutral data centers, and optimize its capital structure.
