- Credit Suisse Group AG Credit Suisse Group AG (CSGNF) was a Switzerland-based global financial services holding company that provided investment banking, private banking, and asset management services to corporate, institutional, government, and high-net-worth individual clients worldwide, with retail banking focused primarily in Switzerland. Founded in 1856 and headquartered in Zurich, the company operated through three main divisions: Private Banking & Wealth Management, offering wealth management solutions including estate planning, insurance, tax planning, philanthropy, investment products, foreign exchange, lending, managed accounts, and real estate; Investment Banking, providing securities sales and trading, investment research, prime brokerage, capital raising, advisory services, equity products, mergers and acquisitions, fixed income, mutual funds, and hedge funds; and Asset Management, delivering access to diverse investment classes such as money market products, equities, balanced funds, alternative investments including real estate, private equity, hedge funds, and volatility management. Its operations spanned over 50 countries across regions including Switzerland, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the Americas, and Asia Pacific, serving a broad client base from large corporations and institutions to affluent individuals.
In a landmark transaction, UBS Group AG UBS Group AG acquired Credit Suisse Group AG in June 2023 for approximately CHF 3 billion in an all-stock deal, following Credit Suisse's near-collapse amid significant losses, client outflows, and regulatory pressures, with the Swiss government, Swiss National Bank, and FINMA facilitating the merger to safeguard financial stability. The integration progressed with the legal merger of UBS AG and Credit Suisse AG on May 31, 2024, marking the cessation of Credit Suisse as a standalone entity, and the subsequent merger of Credit Suisse (Schweiz) AG into UBS Switzerland AG effective July 1, 2024, enabling client migrations to UBS platforms and unlocking cost, capital, funding, and tax synergies. Prior to full integration, Credit Suisse sold its Securitized Products Group to Apollo Asset Management in March 2024 and completed a CHF 4 billion capital increase in December 2022 via rights issue and private placement.
