Business
Ampol Limited (ASX: ALD; OTC: CTXAF) is Australia's leading transport energy distributor and retailer, engaged in the refining, marketing, and distribution of petroleum products; operation of service stations under the Ampol brand; and provision of commercial fuels, lubricants, bitumen, and specialty chemicals. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of products and services including unleaded and diesel fuels, premium fuels such as Ampol Super Unleaded and Liqal; aviation fuels; marine fuels; industrial lubricants under the Ampol and Castrol brands; bitumen for road construction; and convenience retail through Ampol Foodary and foodservice offerings. Ampol operates over 1,800 service stations across Australia and the North Island of New Zealand, serves commercial customers in mining, construction, transport, and agriculture sectors, and provides wholesale fuel supply to independent retailers and major airlines. Founded in 1936 as the Australian Motorists Petrol Company Limited and headquartered in Sydney, Australia, the company changed its name to Ampol Limited in 2019 following the acquisition of Caltex Australia from Chevron Corporation. Recent major developments include the 2023 divestment of the Lytton refinery to Vitol and United Oil Refineries for AUD 918 million to focus on importing and marketing; expansion of its electric vehicle charging network with over 100 AmpCharge sites operational by mid-2025; a strategic alliance with bp Australia announced in 2024 for joint aviation fuel supply; and a AUD 300 million investment in supply chain resilience amid global energy transitions. Ampol continues to target growth in convenience retail and non-fuel revenue streams while maintaining its position as a key player in the Asia-Pacific downstream energy sector.
