Business
Ampol Limited (ASX: ALD) operates as Australia's leading independent transport energy provider, supplying fuel and convenience products through the nation's largest branded retail network of over 1,800 sites; refining, importing, and marketing petroleum products including petrol, diesel, jet fuel, and lubricants; and offering electric vehicle charging via AmpCharge, hydrogen solutions, and carbon offset programs. The company serves approximately 80,000 commercial customers across defense, mining, transport, marine, agriculture, aviation, and other sectors, as well as three million weekly retail consumers, supported by infrastructure encompassing one refinery in Lytton, Queensland, 16 terminals, six major pipelines, and 55 wet depots. Founded in 1936 with roots tracing to 1900 and headquartered in Alexandria, New South Wales, Ampol conducts operations primarily in Australia and New Zealand through its ownership of Z Energy Limited, which supplies about 40% of New Zealand's fuel volumes, alongside international trading from Singapore and Houston, and a 20% stake in Philippines-based Seaoil. In August 2025, Ampol announced a A$1.1 billion acquisition of EG Group's Australian fuel and convenience business, adding approximately 500 company-operated sites to create a national network rivaling competitors, funded by A$800 million cash and A$250 million in shares, targeting mid-2026 completion pending ACCC approval, with projected A$65-80 million annual synergies, high single-digit EPS accretion, and double-digit free cash flow per share growth post-integration. The company advances its energy transition with a A$100 million commitment by 2025 for low-carbon solutions, including AmpCharge expansion to 500 bays by 2027 and Lytton refinery upgrades for ultra-low sulfur fuels commissioning in 2026, while refreshing its sustainability strategy in 2022 to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
