Business
Dyax Corp. (NASDAQ: DYAX) Dyax Corp. is a biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercializes novel biotherapeutics for hereditary angioedema (HAE) and other plasma-kallikrein-mediated disorders using its proprietary phage display technology platform. The company offers KALBITOR (ecallantide), a plasma kallikrein inhibitor approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for treatment of acute HAE attacks in patients 12 years of age and older; it distributes KALBITOR through networks of wholesalers, hospitals, and specialty pharmacies in the United States. Dyax also advanced DX-2930, a fully human monoclonal antibody inhibitor of plasma kallikrein for prophylactic prevention of HAE attacks, supported by Phase 1b data showing over 90% reduction in attack rates versus placebo, along with a licensing and funded research portfolio that includes royalties from approved products such as CYRAMZA (ramucirumab) marketed by Eli Lilly and Company and various clinical-stage candidates from over 70 partners. Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts, Dyax operated primarily in the United States with international licensing agreements for KALBITOR in regions including China, Latin America, and Japan. In a major strategic development, Shire plc acquired Dyax in January 2016 for approximately $5.9 billion in cash, integrating its HAE assets including KALBITOR and DX-2930—later approved by the FDA as TAKHZYRO (lanadelumab)—into Shire's rare disease portfolio, which Takeda Pharmaceutical Company subsequently acquired in 2019; Dyax now functions as a subsidiary within this structure with no independent public trading.
