Business
Sapmer S.A. (ALMER.PA) operates as a fishing company specializing in the capture, processing, and distribution of premium seafood products, including Patagonian toothfish, rock lobster, tropical tuna such as yellowfin, skipjack, and albacore, as well as striped trumpeter, skate, southern toothfish, big eye grenadier, and St. Paul crayfish; it offers fresh and frozen fish products tailored for supermarkets and restaurants. Founded in 1947 and headquartered in Le Port, Reunion Island, France, the company conducts sustainable fishing operations in the waters of the French Southern and Antarctic Territories and the Indian Ocean, with geographic reach extending to sales and distribution in South Africa, Northern America, Mauritius, Japan, Europe, China, and Reunion Island. Sapmer maintains a fleet of 11 French-flagged vessels and operates subsidiaries including Les Armements Reunionnais SAS for fishing, Armement Sapmer Distribution SARL for distribution, Soparma SAS as an investment entity, and Mer des Mascareignes Ltd in partnership with IBL Seafood & Marine for seafood processing and conditioning in Mauritius. In recent developments, Sapmer received a EUR 20 million investment from existing shareholder Cana Tera to sustain operations near Reunion Island, reinforcing its financial position amid ongoing commitments to sustainability certifications and scientific collaboration on marine biodiversity.
