Business
Express, Inc. (EXPRQ) operates as a fashion retail company offering apparel and accessories for men and women, including workwear, casual clothing, jeanswear, going-out outfits, sweaters, cozy sets, trending denim, festive dresses, sharp suit separates, and bodysuits, sold under the Express and UpWest brands through retail and factory outlet stores, express.com online store, Express mobile app, and franchise locations in Latin America. The company targets general consumers seeking stylish, versatile fashion with a focus on quality and value, primarily in the United States and Puerto Rico, with additional distribution via third-party facilities in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1980 as Limited Express in Chicago, Illinois, and formerly known as Express Parent LLC until renaming in May 2010, Express, Inc. is headquartered at 1 Express Drive, Columbus, Ohio. In April 2024, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, followed by court approval in June 2024 for a consortium led by WHP Global, alongside Simon Property Group, Brookfield Properties, and Centennial Real Estate, to form PHOENIX Retail LLC and acquire the majority of its retail operating assets, including over 450 physical stores and U.S. direct-to-consumer commerce for Express and Bonobos brands; the plan converted to Chapter 11 liquidation on December 17, 2024. This transaction preserves nearly 7,000 jobs, strengthens core operations, and positions the brands for long-term growth under PHOENIX's management.
