Business
Spirit Aviation Holdings, Inc. (NYSE American: FLYY) operates as the parent company of Spirit Airlines, LLC, a leading ultra-low-cost carrier providing scheduled passenger air transportation services to destinations throughout the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean utilizing its all-Airbus fleet of A320 family aircraft, one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the U.S.; core offerings include ultra-low base fares with flexible à la carte options such as carry-on and checked baggage fees, assigned seating, onboard Wi-Fi, shortcut security, travel insurance, beverages and snacks, as well as vacation packages encompassing hotels, cars, and cruises booked via spirit.com and the Spirit mobile app; additional services feature deluxe leather seating, on-time performance focus, airport self-bag tagging and drop, and enhanced travel experiences for budget-conscious leisure and business passengers. Founded in 1964 and headquartered in Dania Beach, Florida, the company employs approximately 11,300 people and targets value-driven travelers in domestic U.S. markets and international routes across Latin America and the Caribbean. In August 2025, Spirit Aviation Holdings filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to execute a comprehensive financial and operational restructuring, redesigning its network, optimizing its fleet, and implementing cost-saving measures; by November 2025, it reached agreements in principle with the Air Line Pilots Association and the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA for labor cost reductions supporting debtor-in-possession financing draws, alongside senior leadership salary cuts aligned with union sacrifices to bolster long-term viability amid competitive pressures.
