Business
Genesco Inc. (NYSE: GCO) operates as a leading specialty retailer and wholesaler of footwear, apparel, and accessories through its four primary segments: Journeys Group, Schuh Group, Johnston & Murphy Group, and Genesco Brands Group; the Journeys Group offers trendy footwear, apparel, and accessories for young men, women, and children via Journeys, Journeys Kidz, and Little Burgundy retail chains and e-commerce platforms; the Schuh Group provides casual and athletic footwear, accessories, and apparel primarily in the United Kingdom through Schuh stores and online channels; the Johnston & Murphy Group sells dress casual and casual footwear, apparel, and accessories for men and women via Johnston & Murphy retail stores, factory stores, e-commerce, and wholesale; and the Genesco Brands Group engages in design, marketing, and wholesale distribution of branded footwear and accessories. Founded in 1924 as Jarman Shoe Company by James Franklin Jarman in Nashville, Tennessee, where it maintains headquarters at 535 Marriott Drive, the company operates approximately 1,314 retail stores, including recent net closures of mall-based Journeys locations, across the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Republic of Ireland, serving diverse customer segments from teens and young adults to professionals with omnichannel capabilities encompassing physical stores, e-commerce, loyalty programs like Schuh Club and J&M Insiders Affinity, and wholesale channels. In recent developments, Genesco reported stronger-than-expected Q2 fiscal 2025 revenue of $525 million driven by Journeys' back-to-school performance and digital growth, repurchased 382,000 shares for $9.3 million with $42.8 million remaining under authorization, advanced cost savings targeting $45-$50 million annualized by fiscal year-end through store optimizations and efficiencies, accelerated Schuh loyalty program signups to nearly 35% of sales, repositioned Genesco Brands by simplifying its license portfolio for higher profitability, and implemented Journeys' strategic growth plan including enhanced brand access, customer segmentation, and new product launches amid ongoing store fleet reductions of up to 50 Journeys locations this year.
