Business
Greif, Inc. is a global leader in industrial packaging products and services, headquartered in Delaware, Ohio, and founded in 1877. The company operates in more than 35 countries with over 250 locations, including 210 production sites, and employs approximately 14,000 people. Greif manufactures and sells a diverse range of industrial packaging products including steel, plastic, fiber, flexible, and corrugated containers; packaging accessories; and containerboard. Its service offerings encompass blending, filling, and packaging services. The company operates through four primary business segments: Customized Polymer Solutions, Durable Metal Solutions, Sustainable Fiber Solutions, and Integrated Solutions. These segments produce and market products such as plastic drums, rigid intermediate bulk containers, steel drums, fiber drums, containerboard, corrugated sheets and containers, specialty partitions, paints, linings, and closure systems for industrial packaging. Recently, Greif has undergone significant strategic changes. In 2025, it completed the divestiture of its containerboard business to Packaging Corporation of America for $1.8 billion, which included two mills in Virginia and Ohio with a combined capacity of 800,000 tons annually. This transaction is part of Greif’s strategy to enhance capital efficiency, accelerate debt reduction, and sharpen its competitive edge. Additionally, on October 1, 2025, Greif completed the sale of its timberlands business for approximately $462 million. These divestitures have allowed the company to focus more on its core packaging businesses and to strengthen its financial position. Greif also reported growth in net income and sales in 2025, driven in part by acquisitions that boosted its Customized Polymer Solutions segment. The company continues to emphasize operational optimization and expansion into high-return markets under its "Build to Last" strategic framework. Greif serves a broad industrial customer base globally, including manufacturers and distributors needing sustainable and efficient packaging solutions. The company’s geographic footprint covers North America, Europe, Asia, and other key markets, supported by a comprehensive network of manufacturing and service locations. The combination of Greif’s product diversity, recent divestitures, and strategic investments positions it to deliver consistent earnings and improved capital efficiency in the industrial packaging sector.
