- KME Group S.p.A. is an industrial holding company and a global manufacturer of copper and copper alloy semi-finished and special engineering products. Founded in 1886 as Societa Metallurgica Italiana and headquartered in Milan, Italy, the company operates primarily across industrial manufacturing, advanced materials, and asset management, serving the building and construction, automotive, electrical and electronics, renewable energy, precision mechanics, aerospace, and steelmaking industries worldwide.
The company manufactures, processes, and markets an extensive portfolio of copper and copper alloy materials and engineered solutions. Its core product and service offerings comprise: rolled copper and copper alloy products, including strips, sheets, coils, plates, and discs for connectors, electronic components, coin blanks, power distribution systems, and general industrial applications; copper tubes and piping systems for domestic plumbing, heating, gas, sanitation, industrial cooling, medical gas distribution, and air conditioning installations, marketed under proprietary brand names such as SANCO, WICU, SMX, and Q-tec; architectural copper and brass solutions, including surface-treated sheets, coils, shingles, panels, and rainwater drainage systems for roofing and facade cladding under the TECU brand; copper and copper alloy rods, bars, profiles, sections, and drawn wires utilized in electrical engineering, switchgear, precision turning, and mechanical manufacturing; specialized high-tech components and engineering products, such as continuous casting copper moulds, crucible linings, welding electrodes, and heavy-duty casting components for the global steel and metallurgical industries; and closed-loop non-ferrous metal recycling, scrap management, and tolling services. In addition to its industrial metallurgy operations, KME Group manages a portfolio of non-core private equity investments, renewable energy assets, and financial holdings.
KME Group maintains manufacturing facilities, slitting and service centers, and commercial distribution networks across Europe, notably in Italy, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, alongside international sales and support operations in the Americas and Asia.
In recent corporate developments, the company executed major strategic reorganizations to streamline its core metals business and enhance operational efficiency. Following its corporate name change from Intek Group S.p.A. back to KME Group S.p.A. to unify under its primary industrial brand, the group completed the acquisition of the flat rolled products business of Aurubis AG, integrating manufacturing assets in Zutphen, Netherlands, along with slitting centers in the United Kingdom, Slovakia, and Italy. In addition, KME restructured its high-performance special products division into a dedicated joint venture enterprise, Cunova, partnering with private equity firm Paragon Partners to accelerate global expansion in custom continuous casting moulds and high-alloy engineered products. Concurrently, KME Group and its controlling shareholder, Quattroduedue S.p.A., advanced structural capital reorganizations and public tender offers on the company's equity securities and warrants to optimize governance and corporate structure on Euronext Milan.
