- SGL Carbon SE manufactures carbon and graphite-based materials and products for industries including sustainable mobility, semiconductor technology, renewable energy, digitalization, chemicals and industrial applications. The company offers specialty graphite products such as isostatic graphite for compound semiconductor layers and silicon carbide coatings for semiconductor production; carbon fibers including precursor and acrylic fibers, non-crimp and woven fabrics as well as pre-impregnated materials; composite solutions for high-strength lightweight applications in automotive components like body parts, powertrains, motor blocks, brake systems and carbon-ceramic brake discs; and process technology equipment including heat exchangers, columns, quenchers, pumps, components, assemblies, pipings and sealing materials for large-scale industrial plants. Operating through four business units--Graphite Solutions, Carbon Fibers, Composite Solutions and Process Technology--SGL Carbon maintains 29 production sites across Europe, North America and Asia, with a service network in more than 80 countries, targeting customers in automotive, electronics, energy storage, LED, solar, wind and chemical sectors. Founded in 1992 with roots tracing to 1878 and headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany, the company employs around 4,700 people and generated sales of 1.0 billion euros in fiscal 2024. In recent developments, SGL Carbon completed intensive restructuring of its Carbon Fibers business unit within the last year, achieving positive adjusted EBITDA after prior losses through discontinuation of unprofitable activities, cost savings of around 25 million euros and leadership changes including the appointment of Dr. Denis Hinz as head effective March 2024; expanded production capacities for specialty graphite in semiconductors with investments up to 150 million euros planned for 2024 amid record profits in three of four business units; received 42.9 million euros in funding under IPCEI for graphite anode materials in lithium-ion batteries; partnered with Brembo in September 2023; and continues evaluating strategic options for the Carbon Fibers unit including potential partial or complete sale while confirming full-year 2023 targets and guiding 2025 sales 10-15% below 2024 levels with adjusted EBITDA of 130-150 million euros.
