Business
Citi Trends, Inc. (CTRN) operates as a value-priced retailer of urban fashion apparel, accessories, footwear, beauty products, and home decor items, primarily targeting African American and multicultural families in urban and suburban communities across 33 states in the United States; the company offers nationally branded merchandise alongside private labels such as Citi Steps and Red Ape, including men's, women's, children's, and infants' clothing like sportswear, jeans, dresses, and plus-size options, as well as shoes, handbags, jewelry, home goods, and seasonal decor, all sold at discounts of 20% to 60% below department and specialty store prices. Founded in 1946 as part of Allied Department Stores' Savannah Wholesale Co. and officially renamed Citi Trends, Inc. in 2001 following a corporate spin-off, the company is headquartered in Savannah, Georgia, with distribution centers in Darlington, South Carolina, and Roland, Oklahoma, and operates approximately 600 stores in neighborhood shopping centers. In recent developments, Citi Trends extended its credit agreement maturity to April 2030 from 2026, launched a test of an AI-based allocation system using predictive analytics for sales forecasting in fiscal 2024, reported strong second quarter fiscal 2025 results with total sales of $190.8 million, comparable store sales growth of 9.2%, and a gross margin rate of 40.0%—its highest in over a decade—while raising full-year guidance, and plans to open up to five new stores, remodel about 50 locations, and close 10 to 15 underperformers in fiscal 2025 as part of ongoing fleet optimization and turnaround efforts focused on merchandise margins, inventory management, and e-commerce enhancements.
