- Golden Ocean Group Limited Golden Ocean Group Limited is a Bermuda-registered dry bulk shipping company that owns and operates a large fleet of modern dry bulk vessels, including Newcastlemax, Capesize, Kamsarmax, and Panamax types with an aggregate capacity of approximately 13.7 million deadweight tons; the fleet, numbering around 83 owned vessels plus eight chartered-in from SFL Corporation Ltd., transports bulk commodities such as iron ore, coal, grains, and fertilizers worldwide via spot market operations, fixed-rate time charters, and index-linked time charters. Headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda, with management based in Norway, the company was established in 2004 as a demerger from Frontline Ltd. and historically listed on Nasdaq and the Oslo Stock Exchange. In August 2025, Golden Ocean Group completed a stock-for-stock merger with CMB.TECH Bermuda Ltd., a subsidiary of CMB.TECH NV CMB.TECH NV, becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary and delisting from public exchanges, creating one of the largest diversified listed maritime groups with a combined fleet of about 250 vessels valued at $11.1 billion; CMB.TECH shareholders own approximately 70% and Golden Ocean former shareholders hold 30% post-merger. Prior to the merger, the company exercised purchase options in 2025 for eight Capesize vessels from SFL Corporation Ltd. for $112 million financed via a $90 million credit facility, renewed its share buy-back program, transitioned its chief executive officer in May 2024, and paid over $1.1 billion in dividends since 2021 while maintaining a focus on fuel-efficient, low-emission vessels compliant with future regulations. Operations span global shipping routes serving commodity traders, steel mills, power plants, and mining companies, with emphasis on fleet renewal, capital allocation for shareholder returns, and strategic positioning in volatile dry bulk markets.
