Business
Alphabet Inc. operates as a global technology company, principally through Google, its largest wholly owned subsidiary, providing internet search, digital advertising, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, consumer hardware, software, content, and autonomous-mobility services. Founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Alphabet is headquartered in Mountain View, California, and serves consumers, advertisers, publishers, enterprises, developers, governments, and telecommunications partners worldwide. Google comprises the Google Services and Google Cloud segments, while Alphabet’s Other Bets portfolio includes businesses such as Waymo, Verily, Calico, X Development, Wing and GFiber. Google Services offers Google Search and other search-related products; Google advertising services, including Search ads, YouTube ads, Google Network advertising and Google Marketing Platform products; YouTube video-sharing, subscription, music, television and creator services; Android mobile operating systems and related mobile-services platforms; Chrome browsers and ChromeOS; Google Maps, Waze, Google Earth and location-based services; Google Play digital-content distribution; Google Photos; Gmail; Google Drive; Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet and other Google Workspace productivity and collaboration applications; Google One consumer cloud-storage subscriptions; Google Pay and other payments-related services; Nest smart-home products; Pixel smartphones, tablets, watches, earbuds and related devices; Fitbit wearables and digital-health offerings; and artificial-intelligence products, features and models marketed under the Gemini brand, including AI Overviews in Search and Gemini applications and subscriptions. Google Cloud provides cloud infrastructure, data analytics, cybersecurity, databases, networking, storage, AI and machine-learning services, developer tools, collaboration software and industry solutions to enterprises and public-sector organizations. Its offerings include Google Cloud Platform; Google Workspace; Vertex AI; Gemini Enterprise and Gemini-enabled cloud services; Tensor Processing Units and GPU-based computing instances; BigQuery; Looker; Google Kubernetes Engine; Google Cloud Marketplace; Mandiant cybersecurity services; and, following its 2026 acquisition, Wiz cloud-security capabilities. The company also develops open and proprietary AI models, tools and platforms for consumer and enterprise use, and invests in computing infrastructure and data centers to support AI training, inference and cloud demand. Alphabet’s Other Bets portfolio includes Waymo, which develops and operates autonomous-driving technology and self-driving ride-hailing services; Wing, which provides drone-delivery technology and services; Verily, which develops precision-health technologies and research platforms; Calico, which conducts research into aging and age-related diseases; Isomorphic Labs, which applies AI to drug discovery; GFiber, which provides fiber-based broadband services; and X, Alphabet’s technology-development organization. Alphabet operates internationally, with products and services available across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, and derives a substantial portion of its revenue from advertising and cloud customers outside the United States. Recent strategic developments center on accelerated investment in artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity and autonomous mobility. In 2026, Alphabet completed the acquisition of Wiz, expanding Google Cloud’s cloud-security and AI-security capabilities, and completed the acquisition of Intersect Power to support data-center and energy-infrastructure requirements. The company also announced and priced an approximately $84.75 billion equity capital raise, including an investment by Berkshire Hathaway, to expand AI infrastructure and compute capacity. Google Cloud has introduced Google AI Threat Defense, integrating Gemini, Wiz, CodeMender and Mandiant capabilities to address AI-enabled cybersecurity risks, and has expanded its AI infrastructure and enterprise portfolio with new Tensor Processing Units, GPU offerings and Gemini-based products. Waymo continues to expand its autonomous ride-hailing operations into additional U.S. cities and has introduced its Ojai vehicle to public riders. During 2026, Verily completed an external capital raise and was deconsolidated from Alphabet’s financial results, while GFiber announced a planned combination with Astound Broadband expected to result in its deconsolidation from Alphabet.
