Business
Gracell Biotechnologies Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company and wholly-owned subsidiary of AstraZeneca, develops innovative cell therapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases leveraging its proprietary FasTCAR and TruUCAR platforms; FasTCAR enables next-day manufacturing of younger, less exhausted autologous CAR-T cells, while TruUCAR supports off-the-shelf allogeneic CAR-T therapies from non-HLA-matched donors. The company's lead product candidates include GC012F, a FasTCAR-enabled dual BCMA- and CD19-directed autologous CAR-T in Phase 2 for multiple myeloma and Phase 1 for systemic lupus erythematosus and other hematologic malignancies; GC019F, a FasTCAR-enabled CD19-directed autologous CAR-T in Phase 1 for relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia; GC027, a TruUCAR-enabled CD7-directed allogeneic CAR-T in Phase 1 for T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia; GC007g, a donor-derived CD19-directed allogeneic CAR-T in Phase 1/2 for CD19-expressing malignancies; and GC502, a TruUCAR-enabled dual CD19- and CD7-directed allogeneic CAR-T in Phase 1 for B-cell malignancies. Its earlier-stage pipeline targets solid tumors such as ovarian and breast cancers, as well as hematologic indications including peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Suzhou, China, with operations in Shanghai and Hong Kong, Gracell primarily serves patients in the People's Republic of China through partnerships with key hospitals for investigator-initiated trials supporting global regulatory filings. In February 2024, AstraZeneca completed its $1.2 billion acquisition of Gracell, adding GC012F and other candidates to its oncology portfolio and providing $234 million in cash reserves to advance clinical development.
