Business
Safran SA engages in the design, development, manufacture, and sale of high-technology products for aerospace, defense, and security applications worldwide. Headquartered in Paris, France, and founded in 2005 through the merger of SNECMA and SAGEM, the company operates through three primary segments: Aerospace Propulsion, offering commercial and military aircraft engines including the LEAP and M88 series via Safran Aircraft Engines, helicopter turboshaft engines via Safran Helicopter Engines, and launcher propulsion via ArianeGroup; Aircraft Equipment, Defense and Aerosystems, providing landing gear and brakes through Safran Landing Systems, nacelles and thrust reversers through Safran Nacelles, electrical power systems through Safran Electrical & Power, optronics and avionics through Safran Electronics & Defense, and fluid management systems through Safran Aerosystems; and Aircraft Interiors, encompassing passenger seats via Safran Seats, cabin interiors via Safran Cabin, and passenger comfort solutions via Safran Passenger Solutions. Safran maintains a global footprint with over 92,000 employees across Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East, generating €27.31 billion in revenue in 2024. Recent developments include the July 2025 completion of its $1.8 billion acquisition of Collins Aerospace's flight control and actuation business, strengthening mission-critical capabilities in commercial and military aircraft; the September 2024 acquisition of AI specialist Preligens for $243.3 million to bolster Safran Electronics & Defense; the 2024 acquisition of Component Repair Technologies to enhance MRO services in the Americas; and the 2024 formation of a joint venture with MTU Aero Engines for hybrid-electric propulsion and advanced materials in helicopters.
