Business
Kanadevia Corporation engages primarily in the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) as well as operation, maintenance, and service (O&M) of environmental facilities including Waste to Energy (WtE) plants, biogas plants, sludge recycling centers, and desalination plants. The company manufactures and provides waste treatment facilities; water treatment facilities; energy systems such as power generation equipment; biomass utilization systems; marine diesel engines; NOx removal catalysts; various process equipment including pressure vessels; nuclear power-related equipment; electrolyzers; hydrogen generation and methanation equipment; wind power generation technologies; automobile press machines; boilers; plastic, food, pharmaceutical, and precision machinery; electronics and control systems; and infrastructure products including bridges, hydraulic gates, stacks, marine civil engineering, shield tunneling machines, and disaster prevention systems. Kanadevia operates globally with a significant presence in Japan, Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia, with manufacturing bases mainly in Japan and Europe. The company was founded in 1881 as Osaka Iron Works and is headquartered in Osaka, Japan. In 2024, the company changed its name from Hitachi Zosen Corporation to Kanadevia Corporation to reflect its new brand concept focused on sustainability and harmony between humanity and nature. The name Kanadevia combines the Japanese verb “kanaderu” meaning “to play music in harmony” and the Latin word “via” meaning “way” or “method.” Recent strategic initiatives include expanding the overseas business with a target of 50% of sales from global operations by 2030, continued investment in clean energy technologies such as biogas and waste-to-energy projects, and acquisitions including assets from Babcock & Wilcox A/S in Denmark to strengthen its position in the Nordic and European markets. The company completed multiple Waste to Energy plant constructions in the UK, including projects accredited under the UK Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme supplying biomethane to the gas grid. Kanadevia Inova, a key subsidiary based in Switzerland, is instrumental in growth initiatives, including the development of carbon capture facilities and new waste-to-energy CHP projects in Europe. The company plans to invest approximately 140 billion yen over three years from 2023 in growth businesses including Waste-to-X and wind power generation, and continues to expand its technology portfolio and service offerings globally. Kanadevia also focuses on sustainable management, corporate culture transformation, and talent cultivation to support long-term growth and innovation in decarbonization and resource recycling sectors. Kanadevia is positioned as a leading global provider of environmental and industrial infrastructure technologies, emphasizing decarbonization, circular resource use, and the development of safer, more sustainable communities worldwide. The company reported consolidated net sales of roughly 555.8 billion yen for fiscal 2023, with overseas sales accounting for 45% of its total revenue, surpassing its medium-term target ahead of schedule. Kanadevia operates through three main business segments: Environment Business (including EPC and O&M of environmental facilities), Machinery & Infrastructure Business (industrial and infrastructure machinery), and Carbon Neutral Solution Business (CO2 reduction and clean energy technologies). The company continues strategic M&A activities, joint ventures, and technological innovation to expand its global footprint and service capabilities. Kanadevia's operational reach encompasses Japan, Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia, with specialized subsidiaries such as Kanadevia Inova contributing to its international business development, particularly in renewable energy and waste management solutions. The company’s historical roots in shipbuilding have evolved to a broad engineering and manufacturing portfolio that supports the environmental engineering, energy transition, and infrastructure sectors globally. Kanadevia Corporation is headquartered in Osaka, Japan, and continues to pursue growth through sustainable technology innovations, global expansion, and investment in environmentally focused infrastructure to address climate change, resource efficiency, and community safety challenges.
