- Global Bio-chem Technology Group Company Limited (0809.HK) is an investment holding company principally engaged in the manufacture and sale of corn refined products and corn-based biochemical products. The company operates through three main segments: Amino Acids, offering lysine, threonine, tryptophan, 98% lysine, and 65% protein lysine for animal feed and other applications; Upstream Products, producing corn starch, corn fiber, gluten meal, corn oil, and other corn refined by-products; and Corn Sweeteners and Polyol Chemicals, including glucose, maltose, high fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin, crystallized glucose, modified starch, polyol chemicals, anti-freeze products, hydrogen, and ammonia. These products serve diverse industries such as animal feed production, food and beverages, cosmetics, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals, with production facilities primarily located in Changchun and Dehui, Jilin Province, Northeast China.
Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong, the company maintains its largest corn refining operations in Asia, with an annual processing capacity historically reaching 2.4 million metric tonnes by 2008, and markets its products in the People's Republic of China, rest of Asia, the Americas, and internationally. It holds a leading position as one of the world's largest producers of lysine series products in the fermentation industry and pioneered commercial polyol chemical production from corn. The company is owned by parent Changchun Dacheng Industry Group and previously spun off its sweeteners business as subsidiary Global Sweeteners Holdings Limited in 2007.
In recent developments, Global Bio-chem has focused on financial restructuring and operational enhancements, including the resumption of relevant properties expected to generate proceeds for debt settlement during 2024 and 2025, and the completion of a Debt-to-Equity-Swap Agreement with Suppliers PRC LLPs to improve its balance sheet. The group secured financial support from indirect major shareholder Nongtou Group (Jilin Province Agricultural Investment Group), which acquired a significant stake and provides stable corn supply under a master agreement effective December 2023, alongside commitments for operational funding over the next 12 months. Additionally, it continues to maximize amino acids production capacity, launching high value-added products to boost cash inflows in 2024, while progressing debt repurchases from entities like Jilin Cinda and implementing cost-saving measures amid challenging market conditions.
