Business
ImmuCell Corporation (Nasdaq: ICCC), an animal health company founded in 1982 and headquartered at 56 Evergreen Drive in Portland, Maine, develops, manufactures and markets products that improve the health and productivity of dairy and beef cattle primarily in the United States, Canada and select international markets including South Korea and the Middle East. The company operates through two main segments, Scours and Mastitis, with its flagship First Defense product line offering USDA-licensed, orally delivered scours preventives for newborn calves and lambs, including First Defense with claims against E. coli, coronavirus and rotavirus; Tri-Shield First Defense, a passive antibody gel tube product providing immediate immunity against E. coli, coronavirus and rotavirus and approved for organic farms; Dual-Force First Defense, a bivalent gel tube formulation; and First Defense Technology, a colostrum concentrate in bulk powder and gel formats for nutritional supplementation without USDA disease claims. Additional products include the California Mastitis Test, a rapid on-farm diagnostic for detecting somatic cell counts and udder infections in dairy cows. ImmuCell sells these products through animal health distributors, veterinarians, fleet stores and directly to producers, targeting the approximately $82 million U.S. calf-level and dam-level scours prevention market where it holds leading share in calf-level treatments. In recent developments, the company increased First Defense production capacity beyond $30 million annually through facility expansions and new equipment completed by late 2022, overcame product contamination events resolved by mid-2024 with no recurrences since April 2024, reported Q2 2025 product sales up 18% to $6.4 million with gross margins improving to 44% from 22%, refinanced $2.33 million in bank debt at 6.5% interest with Maine Community Bank to eliminate $1.95 million in balloon payments due in 2026 and extend terms to 2030, raised approximately $4.6 million through an at-the-market equity offering of 1.2 million shares during 2024, submitted the final Technical Section of its New Animal Drug Application for Re-Tain—a purified Nisin intramammary treatment for subclinical mastitis without milk discard requirements—in January 2025 pending FDA approval on four of five sections, and initiated investigational product use of Re-Tain in the second half of 2025 to test market acceptance while evaluating further capacity expansions up to $40 million to meet North American demand. Cumulative First Defense sales exceeded 36 million doses by late 2024, reflecting sustained growth despite prior supply constraints, with ongoing efforts to penetrate beef markets, expand international registrations and launch lower-cost spray-dried formats.
