Business
Permanent TSB Group Holdings plc (PTSB) is an Irish banking group that provides retail and small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) banking services through its principal subsidiary Permanent TSB plc; core offerings include current accounts, savings and deposit accounts, residential mortgages such as first-time buyer, green and buy-to-let products, personal loans, credit cards including the ICE Visa Credit Card, overdrafts, term loans, SME and asset finance lending, business loans, home insurance, life insurance, investments, and digital banking via Open24 online and mobile platforms; the group also supports transactional banking, pensions, and deposit-taking across individual consumers, households, and business customers. Headquartered at the Irish Life Centre in Dublin, Ireland, PTSB traces its origins to mergers involving the Irish Permanent Building Society founded in 1884, Irish Life Assurance from 1939, and the Trustee Savings Bank established in 1816, with the current structure formed post-2012 following the Irish banking crisis and state recapitalization. The company operates primarily in the Republic of Ireland through a nationwide network of branches and ATMs, serving over one million customers as the third-largest retail banking group in the market. Recent developments include the 2022 acquisition of a €7.6 billion performing loan book, 25 branches, and a strengthened business banking franchise from Ulster Bank, enabling over 20% share of new mortgage lending and mid-single-digit share of business lending; a 2023 rebranding to PTSB alongside a major business overhaul; significant stake sales by the Irish Government and NatWest Group in 2023 and July 2025 respectively, reducing state ownership; the July 2025 commencement of a Formal Sale Process to identify a new long-term owner amid robust financial performance, with total gross loans reaching €22.4 billion (up 3% year-to-date), customer deposits at €25.4 billion (up 7% year-on-year), new mortgage lending surging 64% to €2.1 billion, and plans to restart dividend payments in 2026 subject to regulatory approval; and enhanced focus on impact and green lending totaling €586 million in the first half of 2025, representing 43% of new mortgage lending.
