Business
Imerys S.A. (IMYSY) is a French multinational company specializing in the production and processing of industrial minerals to deliver high-value specialty solutions for diverse industries worldwide. The company operates through three main business areas: Performance Minerals, offering kaolin, talc, ground calcium carbonate, and other minerals for applications in paper, plastics, paints, coatings, rubber, and polymers; Solutions for Refractory, Abrasives and Construction (RAC), providing refractory materials, abrasives, and construction minerals such as roofing clay and ceramic proppants; and Solutions for Energy Transition (SET), including graphite flakes, carbon-based materials for batteries and fuel cells, and high-performance additives for automotive, electronics, and energy storage sectors. Imerys serves key markets including construction, automotive, consumer goods, animal care, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food, filtration, ceramics, abrasives, and energy transition, with customers ranging from global manufacturers to specialized formulators. Founded in 1880 with roots in mining activities by the Rothschild family and headquartered at 43 Quai de Grenelle in Paris, France, Imerys maintains operations across more than 40 countries, including major facilities in the Americas (North American headquarters in Roswell, Georgia), Europe Middle East Africa (EMEA), and Asia-Pacific (APAC), supported by over 230 industrial sites and 60 production facilities globally. In recent strategic developments, Imerys signed an agreement in 2025 to acquire SB Mineração, a Brazilian ground calcium carbonate (GCC) producer generating approximately USD 30 million in annual revenue, to strengthen its footprint in polymers, paints, and coatings markets in Brazil, subject to regulatory approvals. The company also formed strategic partnerships in its Graphite & Carbon business with Cnano (global leader in carbon nanotubes) and Shanghai ShanShan (leader in synthetic graphite for lithium-ion batteries) to expand its innovative product portfolio for energy storage applications. Additional moves include a distribution partnership with LBB Specialties in September 2025 for ImerCare® mineral-based solutions in personal care, food, and nutrition across the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico; a 10-year green energy supply agreement covering 25% of European operations to reduce Scope 2 emissions by 14%; receipt of investor interest for a minority stake in the EMILI Lithium Project targeting commercial production by 2030; and divestiture of paper market assets for approximately €150 million in November 2025 as part of portfolio optimization. These initiatives reflect Imerys' focus on cost reduction, sustainability, and growth in high-potential segments like energy transition amid market recovery in construction and electric vehicles.
