Business
Illinois Tool Works Inc. (ITW) manufactures a diversified range of highly engineered industrial products and equipment across seven segments including Automotive OEM; Food Equipment; Test & Measurement and Electronics; Welding; Polymers & Fluids; Construction Products; and Specialty Products. Automotive OEM supplies plastic and metal components, fasteners and assemblies to original equipment manufacturers and tiers in the automotive, light truck and industrial markets; Food Equipment provides warewashing equipment, cooking equipment such as ovens, ranges and broilers, refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, freezers and prep tables, food processing equipment like slicers, mixers and scales, kitchen exhaust, ventilation and pollution control systems, and related service, maintenance and repair; Test & Measurement and Electronics offers equipment, consumables and software for testing and measuring materials, structures, gases and fluids, electronic assembly equipment, electronic components and packaging, static control equipment and consumables for clean rooms, and pressure sensitive adhesives for electronics, medical, transportation and telecommunications; Welding produces arc welding equipment, metal arc welding consumables and related accessories for fabrication, shipbuilding, construction, energy and automotive applications; Polymers & Fluids supplies industrial adhesives, sealants, lubrication and cutting fluids, epoxy and resin-based coatings, hand wipes and cleaners, auto aftermarket maintenance fluids and polymers, body repair fillers and putties, and marine polyester coatings and patch products; Construction Products delivers fasteners and fastening tools for wood and metal, anchors and tools for concrete, metal plate truss components and software, and packaged hardware, fasteners and anchors for retail; Specialty Products includes conveyor systems and line automation for food and beverage, plastic consumables for multi-packing cans and bottles, foil and film decoration equipment, product coding and marking equipment and consumables, plastic and metal appliance closures and components, airport ground support equipment, and medical device components. Founded in 1912 and headquartered in Glenview, Illinois, the company operates 86 scaled-up divisions in 51 countries, employing approximately 44,000 people and serving diverse end markets such as automotive, food service, general industrial, construction, energy and consumer durables through a decentralized structure leveraging its proprietary 80/20 business model, customer-back innovation and entrepreneurial culture. Recent developments include the completion of two acquisitions in the Test & Measurement and Electronics segment on January 2, 2024 for $57 million and April 1, 2024 for $59 million net of cash acquired to enhance capabilities in that area; the sale of its noncontrolling equity interest in Wilsonart International Holdings LLC to affiliates of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice on August 5, 2024 for $398 million yielding a pre-tax gain of $363 million; ongoing execution of enterprise initiatives targeting above-market organic growth, with third quarter 2025 revenue of $4.1 billion reflecting 1% organic growth and a record operating margin of 27.4%; and reaffirmed fiscal 2025 guidance for operating margins of 26% to 27% with enterprise contributions of 125 basis points and midpoint EPS of $10.45, alongside progress toward 2030 goals including customer-driven innovation yield exceeding 3%.
