Business
Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN; OTCQX:IVPAF) is a Canadian mining company focused on the development and operation of high-grade copper, zinc, nickel, platinum group metals and related mineral projects in Southern Africa. The company advances its principal projects including the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex, a large-scale high-grade copper mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) producing copper in concentrate; the Platreef palladium-nickel-platinum-rhodium-copper-gold project in South Africa; the Kipushi zinc-copper-germanium-silver-lead mine in the DRC, one of the world's highest-grade zinc operations; and the Western Foreland exploration project covering approximately 2,407 square kilometres in the DRC. Ivanhoe Mines explores for and produces copper as the metal of electrification; nickel for stainless steel and EV batteries; platinum group metals including platinum, palladium and rhodium for catalytic converters and hydrogen fuel cells; and zinc for steel galvanizing and green energy applications; with geographic operations centred in the DRC and South Africa. Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, the company changed its name from Ivanplats Limited in August 2013. Recent developments include first platinum group metals production at Platreef in October 2025; record zinc production of 57,200 tonnes at Kipushi in Q3 2025 following a debottlenecking program; US$500 million strategic private placement with Qatar Investment Authority in September 2025 to accelerate critical minerals projects and exploration; completion of Stage Two dewatering at Kakula Mine by November 2025; startup of a 500,000-tonne-per-annum direct-to-blister copper smelter in November 2025; and updated 2026 copper production guidance of 380,000 to 420,000 tonnes from Kamoa-Kakula as recovery advances.
