Business
Knorr-Bremse AG develops, manufactures and markets braking systems and other safety-critical subsystems for rail and commercial vehicles worldwide. The company operates through two primary divisions: Rail Vehicle Systems, which supplies braking systems, intelligent entrance systems, HVAC systems, auxiliary power supply systems, control components, windscreen wiper systems, platform screen doors, friction materials, driver assistance systems and control technology for mass transit and long-distance rail vehicles; and Commercial Vehicle Systems, which provides braking systems, electronic brake controls, driver assistance systems, air supply systems and powertrain systems including torsional vibration dampers for trucks, buses, trailers and agricultural machinery. Founded in 1905 and headquartered in Munich, Germany, Knorr-Bremse maintains production facilities and operations across more than 100 locations in 30 countries, serving original equipment manufacturers, fleet operators and aftermarket customers in the rail and commercial vehicle sectors. In recent developments, Knorr-Bremse acquired the duagon Group in September 2025 for approximately EUR 500 million to enhance its rail electronics, software solutions and signaling business, expecting EBIT synergies of EUR 5-10 million by 2028. The company also completed the acquisition of TRAVIS Road Services International B.V. in October 2025, bolstering its digital aftermarket services for commercial vehicles via online booking platforms, following its majority stake in Cojali S.L. in 2022. Additionally, Knorr-Bremse announced a EUR 125 million expansion of its largest European truck plant in Aldersbach, Germany, in July 2025, including EU Innovation Fund support, to ramp up production of electric power steering systems and advance digital manufacturing by 2030.
