Business
Karora Resources Inc. operates as a multi-asset mineral resource company focused on the acquisition, exploration, evaluation, development, and production of precious metal properties, primarily gold, in Western Australia. The company holds 100% interests in the Beta Hunt underground gold and nickel mine located in the prolific Kambalda mining district; the Higginsville Gold Operations, including open-pit mines and a 1.4 million tonne per annum mill; the Spargos Reward Gold project; and associated treatment facilities such as the Lakewood mill, with a combined processing capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum. Karora Resources explores for and produces gold, silver, and nickel deposits, targeting mid-tier sustainable production with annual gold output guidance reaching 170,000 to 185,000 ounces in 2024 at all-in sustaining costs of US$1,250 to US$1,375 per ounce sold. Incorporated in 2006 and formerly known as Royal Nickel Corporation until its name change in June 2020, the company maintains headquarters in Toronto, Canada, with primary operations based in West Perth, Australia. In a transformative development completed on July 31, 2024, Karora Resources was acquired by Westgold Resources Limited through a statutory plan of arrangement valued at approximately C$1.1 billion (A$1.2 billion), establishing Karora as a subsidiary of the enlarged entity capable of over 400,000 ounces of annual gold production from Western Australian assets and delivering substantial synergies including A$281 million in corporate cost savings and A$209 million in operating efficiencies. Prior to the merger, Karora reported record 2023 gold production of 160,492 ounces, signed a long-term power purchase agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2030, and extended high-grade zones such as Fletcher with intersections up to 17.3 grams per tonne gold over 14.5 metres. The company's subsidiaries include Salt Lake Mining Pty Ltd. and Hill 51 Pty Ltd., serving institutional and retail investors through its listings on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: KRR) and OTCQX (KRRGF) prior to delisting post-acquisition.
