- Median Diagnostics Inc. is a South Korea-based biotechnology and in vitro diagnostics company that develops, manufactures, and commercializes specialized diagnostic reagents, test kits, and biological raw materials for veterinary healthcare, livestock disease surveillance, food safety, and plant pathology. Founded in 1999 as JENO Biotech Inc. and headquartered in Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea, the company operates within the veterinary pharmaceuticals and molecular diagnostics sectors, supplying veterinary clinics, agricultural quarantine authorities, reference laboratories, livestock farms, and research institutes across Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East.
The company categorizes its primary product portfolio into three proprietary commercial brands: molecular diagnostic assays under the VDx brand, comprising conventional PCR and real-time reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR) kits for the detection and differentiation of viral and bacterial pathogens in swine, poultry, ruminants, equines, canines, felines, and aquatic species, including African Swine Fever (ASFV), Classical Swine Fever (CSFV), Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRSV), Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PEDV), Avian Influenza (AIV), Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMDV), and Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVDV); rapid point-of-care test kits under the VDRG brand, featuring lateral flow immunochromatographic rapid assays for on-site antigen and antibody screening of livestock and companion animals, including ASFV antigen, FMDV 3Diff/PAN antigen, AIV antigen, Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome virus (SFTSV), Canine Parvovirus, and Feline Leukemia; and serological diagnostic systems under the VDPro brand, delivering enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits for high-throughput herd surveillance, antibody monitoring, vaccine response evaluation, and bovine pregnancy detection. In addition, Median Diagnostics manufactures specialized diagnostic products for plant pathogens, such as fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) detection kits, honey authenticity testing kits, and customized raw biological materials including recombinant antigens and monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies for veterinary and human diagnostic applications.
In recent corporate developments, South Korean molecular biology firm NanoHelix Co., Ltd. acquired a 71.14 percent controlling stake in Median Diagnostics from private equity firm STIC Investments in November 2024, establishing NanoHelix as the company's controlling shareholder. In 2024, Median Diagnostics gained official membership in the international trade federation Diagnostics for Animals (D4A) to strengthen its global market access and regulatory collaboration, and entered into a strategic research and commercialization partnership with Igentech to co-develop portable on-site molecular diagnostic systems for high-risk animal infectious diseases. Furthermore, the company expanded its molecular diagnostics pipeline with the introduction of the VDx ASFV 3Diff qPCR kit, an advanced multiplex assay engineered to simultaneously detect and differentiate African Swine Fever genotype I, genotype II, and recombinant mutant strains.
