Business
Standard BioTools Inc., alongside its affiliated entities, delivers a diverse array of scientific instruments, consumables, and specialized services to researchers globally, facilitating the advancement of therapeutic development across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific regions. The company operates through two main business areas: Proteomics and Genomics. These segments encompass advanced instrumentation, necessary consumables, software solutions, and comprehensive services, all built upon proprietary technologies for identifying proteins, genes, and understanding their functions. In proteomics, Standard BioTools offers the CyTOF® technology platform, which employs metal-tagged antibodies and time-of-flight mass spectrometry to achieve high-multiplexing capabilities and eliminate signal interference, providing deep insights into cellular processes and disease mechanisms. Key systems include the CyTOF XT PRO and the Hyperion XTi Imaging System, designed for comprehensive single-cell and spatial protein analysis. The company's offerings also recently included the SomaScan platform for broad protein measurement, though it was strategically sold to Illumina in June 2025, with the transaction anticipated to finalize in the first half of 2026, aiming to streamline operations and enhance financial flexibility. For genomics, Standard BioTools provides microfluidics-based systems like the Biomark™ X9 System, which reimagines high-throughput genomic applications for quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation. These innovative tools are supplied for research use only to a broad clientele, including academic institutions, translational and clinical research centers, cancer research facilities, biopharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, as well as those in plant and animal research. Standard BioTools, which was formerly known as Fluidigm Corporation, rebranded in April 2022 and was initially established in 1999, maintaining its headquarters in South San Francisco, California. The company is currently undergoing a restructuring, including a reduction in its global workforce and consolidation of R&D, to improve operational efficiency and accelerate its path to profitability.
