Business
Gevo, Inc. (GEVO) develops and commercializes renewable chemicals and advanced biofuels, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) via its proprietary alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) technology; renewable natural gas (RNG); renewable gasoline and diesel blendstocks; isobutanol, isooctane, isobutylene, and ethanol; ethanol-to-olefins (ETO) processes for chemicals and plastics; and high-protein animal feed co-products such as Nutri-Protein. Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, the company operates primarily in the United States, with facilities including a development plant in Luverne, Minnesota; an RNG facility in northwest Iowa; and the recently acquired Gevo North Dakota ethanol plant with carbon capture and sequestration capabilities. Gevo targets aviation, fuel, chemical, plastics, and animal feed industries, emphasizing low-carbon, drop-in alternatives to petroleum products that integrate with existing infrastructure and support circular economy principles through regenerative feedstocks like corn. In recent developments, Gevo completed its $210 million acquisition of Red Trail Energy's ethanol production and carbon capture assets in North Dakota in late 2024, boosting Q1 2025 revenue to $30.9 million, including $22.8 million from the new facility, and enabling over 100,000 metric tons of carbon abatement. The company secured a $1.63 billion conditional loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy for its Net-Zero 1 SAF project, expects positive adjusted EBITDA in 2025, and signed new SAF offtake agreements with Future Energy Global for 10 million gallons annually and another buyer for 5 million gallons. Additional milestones include acquiring CultivateAI to enhance carbon accounting, expanding its Verity platform with customers like Landus and Minnesota Soybean Processors, broadening its alliance with Axens for ATJ commercialization, and receiving a U.S. patent for its ETO process in September 2025.
