- S.N.T.G.N. Transgaz SA is a Romania-based natural gas transmission company that operates as the sole technical operator of the Romanian National Gas Transmission System. Founded in 2000 following the restructuring of the state-owned gas company Romgaz and headquartered in Medias, Romania, the company is majority-owned by the Romanian State and trades publicly on the Bucharest Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol TGN. Operating within the regulated energy utilities and infrastructure sector, Transgaz primarily serves natural gas producers, wholesale suppliers, regional distribution operators, power plants, and industrial consumers, as well as international cross-border gas traders across Eastern and Central Europe.
The company offers a comprehensive range of regulated infrastructure and technical services across an extensive network exceeding 13,000 kilometers of high-pressure pipelines, compressor stations, and metering facilities, encompassing: domestic natural gas transmission services for intra-country delivery from production fields and import terminals to local distribution grids and industrial facilities; international transit transmission and cross-border interconnection capacity booking through bi-directional physical interconnections linking Romania with Bulgaria, Hungary, Ukraine, and Moldova; commercial and operational network balancing, including virtual trading point administration and gas dispatching; network connection, design approval, and technical commissioning for upstream producers, industrial clients, and power generation facilities; maintenance, monitoring, and non-destructive pipeline diagnostic services; and specialized technological engineering, design, and feasibility studies for gas infrastructure development.
In recent strategic developments, Transgaz has executed several major capital investments, regional operational expansions, and institutional partnerships to strengthen European energy security. In October 2025, the company completed and commissioned the 308-kilometer Tuzla-Podisor pipeline, creating critical transport infrastructure to connect offshore gas production from the Neptun Deep Black Sea perimeter with the domestic grid and the regional BRUA corridor. Transgaz also expanded its operational footprint internationally through its subsidiary Vestmoldtransgaz, which assumed full management and dispatching operations of the gas transmission network in the Republic of Moldova, operating the Iasi-Chisinau pipeline. In May 2025, Transgaz completed the acquisition of a 51 percent majority stake in Petrostar SA, expanding its in-house engineering and technological design capabilities. In mid-2026, the company secured 300 million euros in infrastructure financing from Banca Transilvania, backed by guarantee facilities involving the World Bank Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, to fund modernization projects across its compressor stations and support decarbonization efforts aligned with the European Hydrogen Backbone. Additionally, Transgaz concluded strategic cooperation agreements with regional transmission partners including Serbia's JP Srbijagas to advance cross-border interconnectors and deepen participation in the regional Vertical Gas Corridor.
