Business
Debenhams Group PLC (DEBS.L), formerly Boohoo Group PLC, operates as a leading online fashion retailer offering clothing, footwear, accessories, beauty and home products to consumers aged 16 to 60-plus through a portfolio of owned and marketplace brands including boohoo, boohooMAN, PrettyLittleThing, Nasty Gal, MissPap, Karen Millen, Coast, Oasis, Warehouse, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton; it provides consumer credit and payment services alongside its digital department store and marketplace model. Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Manchester, United Kingdom, the company conducts global operations with key markets in the UK, Europe, US, Australia and Ireland, supported by distribution centres in the UK and US. The group serves fashion-conscious customers via proprietary e-commerce platforms and third-party marketplaces, emphasising a capital-light, tech-enabled structure with over 20,000 brand partners. In recent developments, Debenhams marketplaces have expanded internationally to Ireland, Australia and the US, while brands like Coast, Warehouse, Oasis, Nasty Gal and Karen Millen launched on Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom platforms in September 2025, alongside a Nasty Gal collaboration with Amazon Fashion. The company achieved profitability across all brands on an adjusted EBITDA basis in the first half of fiscal 2026, with Debenhams GMV up 20% and group adjusted EBITDA rising 5% to £20 million amid a strategic pivot to marketplaces now comprising 32% of GMV. Co-founders Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane purchased 5 million shares in late November and early December 2025, and the group plans to formally change its name to Debenhams PLC pending shareholder approval while targeting £1 billion Debenhams GMV and £50 million-plus EBITDA within three years.
