Business
Mineral Resources Limited (ASX: MIN; OTC: MALRF) is a leading diversified resources company engaged in mining, processing, and mining services with operations focused on lithium, iron ore, energy, and related commodities primarily in Western Australia. The company produces spodumene concentrate from its interests in the Tier-1 Wodgina and Mt Marion lithium mines; iron ore from projects including the Onslow Iron development; natural gas and energy solutions; and offers comprehensive mining services through its wholly owned subsidiary CSI Mining Services, encompassing open pit mining, specialised crushing and material handling, transport and logistics with a fleet including the world's largest single-engine road trains, manufacturing of equipment and parts via acquired Mining Wear Parts, site services including camp accommodation, and rehabilitation services. CSI Mining Services operates across Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and Queensland, serving both MinRes projects and external Tier-1 clients with pit-to-ship solutions and innovative technologies such as NextGen modular crushing plants and shallow-draft transhippers. Founded in 2006 through the merger of pipeline manufacturing, crushing services, and process minerals businesses and headquartered in Osborne Park, Western Australia, the company employs approximately 8,456 people and maintains a portfolio spanning iron ore mining, lithium production, energy, other commodities, and central services. Recent strategic developments include the execution in November 2025 of a binding agreement with POSCO Holdings Inc. for the sale of a 30% stake in a new joint venture holding MinRes' 50% interests in Wodgina and Mt Marion for upfront US$765 million (valuing the assets at approximately $3.9 billion), expected to complete in the first half of 2026 subject to regulatory approvals including from the Foreign Investment Review Board, with proceeds earmarked for debt repayment and growth initiatives; this builds on the existing Onslow Iron joint venture with POSCO Holdings and underscores MinRes' capital recycling strategy through partnerships. Other changes encompass the 2023 acquisition and subsequent 2024 closure of the Bald Hill Lithium and Tantalum Mine due to lithium price declines, placement into care and maintenance with an ongoing sale process, the 2024 shutdown of the financially unviable Yilgarn iron ore hub, and receipt in early November 2025 of a $200 million contingent payment from Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners related to a private haul road transaction.
