(MITSY) operates as one of Japan's largest sogo shosha, or general trading companies, engaging in diverse global activities spanning product sales, worldwide logistics, financing, and development of major infrastructure projects across mineral and metal resources including iron ore, metallurgical coal, copper, ferroalloys, nickel, aluminum and lithium; energy encompassing oil, natural gas exploration and production, LNG trading, power generation with renewables, storage batteries, EV infrastructure, next-generation solutions like hydrogen, ammonia and biofuels; infrastructure projects such as thermal power, gas pipelines, LNG terminals, water desalination, ports and digital infrastructure; mobility covering automobiles, construction machinery, railways, ships, aviation and space; chemicals from basic materials like methanol, olefins and aromatics to performance materials including synthetic polymers, battery and semiconductor materials; iron and steel products with manufacturing, processing, maintenance and recycling; food through sugars, oils, proteins, beverages; retail distribution, apparel and food manufacturing; wellness via healthcare providers, pharmaceuticals and employee services; IT and communication including digital solutions, cybersecurity and B2C platforms; and corporate development in financial services, real estate and logistics. Founded in 1947 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the company maintains operations in over 60 countries with 122 offices and conducts business through 294 consolidated subsidiaries. Recent developments include formation of a joint venture with CF Industries and JERA in April 2025 for a low-carbon ammonia facility at Blue Point Complex in Louisiana; portfolio restructuring via 2024 acquisition of Singapore's Eu Yan Sang for $509 million in traditional Chinese medicine and Commonwealth Fusion Systems in fusion energy, alongside divestments of ACI Motors and Sneha Farms; investment in AI-based steel scrap analysis firm EVERSTEEL in December 2025; participation in Thailand's Arthit Gas Field CCS project and Kite Mobility for EV sharing in October 2025; capital deployment for the Roseridge Iron Ore project targeting first ore by 2030; and completion of full acquisition of Chile's leading fleet management company, alongside upward revisions to FY2025 profit forecasts to JPY 820 billion reflecting strong cash flow and share repurchases.
